I have my own music site which consists of 6 blogs. Right now this blog is based upon Typepad. One of the pitfalls of Typepad is that it does not allow me to integrate a music database consisting of artists, songs, albums, charts, labels etc (with related information like youtube video, link to download, lyrics etc). Adding and editing this type of data is essential for the new website I want to create.
Another pitfall which more or less is a consequence, is the impossibility to relate blog entries to artists, songs etc. So artist pages, and song pages cannot be made. I was wondering if it is possible to integrate an extensive music database into ModX. Or is it better to create a custom CMS?

It is quite possible. You would need to create the tables, then write snippets and/or TVs to access the tables. This is how MaxiGallery, WebLoginPE and TreasureChest work. I think there’s at least one event calender app that works the same way. You can also create a module to manage the tables from the Manager if you want.
I’ve done something similar using an extjs data grid; very pretty.

Adding categories to a page is as simple as making a drop-down select TV and selecting the desired category when creating the page. Ditto will recognize your TVs for sorting and filtering purposes.
