I’ve installed MODx many times on different hosts and this is the first time I see the following behavior:

I go to http://www.foo.com/manager and press Enter.
When the page loads the URL automatically changes to http://foo.com/manager.

This causes a problem because quickedit doesn’t work.

I am using Firefox 1.5, MODx 0.9.6.1p2 and shared hosting. Any ideas on how to begin troubleshooting this problem?

    thanks, Andy

Nobody else has seen this problem? Hmmm... sad

Sounds like an .htaccess configuration issue.

Not sure what it could be. The site is using FURLs and works fine. The manager also works perfectly. Nothing added to the default MODx .htaccess that it comes with.

The problem is that if you are looking at the site with http://www.foo.com but you are logged into the manager with http://foo.com/manager, then Quickedit (and also Maxigallery configuration) isn’t displayed. If you then change the site URL in the browser to http://foo.com then they show up.

It’s also possible to edit the manager URL after logging in and add back in the www. I then have to log in again but this time the www remains in the URL.

That’s because cookies are domain-specific, and http://www.whatever is not the same as http://whatever. Technically the www. makes it a subdomain of whatever, which will make the difference to the cookie. Cookies can be configured to work for any subdomain of whatever. This will cause the cookie to work on all subdomains, however, which could cause problems if you are actually working with subdomains that you want to keep separate.

You can add a line to your .htaccess file to cause all www.whatever access to be sent to whatever, or vice versa. Or you can just remember to always log in to www.whatever wink

Thanks. I will try to fiddle with the .htaccess file.

Note that I do try to log into http://www.foo.com/manager, but when the MODx login sceen is loaded the URL has automagically changed to http://foo.com/manager.

Very interesting... none of my sites do that.

I have many other installations of MODx and none of them do it either. Perhaps it is something quirky about Lunarpages...

Did you remember to rename the ht.access file to .htaccess in that manager/ folder?

It also might be interesting to check the paths and urls in the phpinfo server and environment section for that domain. I’ve had one or two sites that were a bit odd because of unusual server configurations returning unusual values there.
