my site is down. it’s because my webhost changed everything on the server. i can tell, because they moved my control panel from one version to another so everything is clearly different. wouldn’t you know that this also seems to have broken my site!
i can still log into my modx manager, but the site itself is down.
my awful webhost is www.ipower.com. i do not recommend them. my website is:

Hi,
Since your manager login {which shows MODx is alive} appears I’d agree that the most likely cause of the problem is a failed permissions set-up. I’m assuming you can’t login through manager. Looks like the site cache has become un-writable.
Regards
PS Just tested on a localhost set-up and you’d get a different message if the file was deleted, so looks like a permissions problem
it only took two days, and several phone call and email exchanges (ug! i don’t recommend ipower.com if you were considering them!), but they did finally fix whatever was ailing my site. it was permissions related, but for some reason they were not permissions that i could change myself. they had to change them. clearly something was amiss on their end.
anyway, my site works again, which is nice, but in my manager, modx is still giving me a few "issues" in the configuration check. it’s saying:
1. Configuration warning: ’register_globals is set to ON in your php.ini configuration file’
(it’s said this since up upgraded to the latest version of modx, but i’m not sure what to change. ipower says i need to change something in my .htaccess file, but i’m afraid to since i want my friendly urls to keep working)
2. Configuration warning: ’cache directory not writable’
and
3. Configuration warning: ’Images directory not writable’
i’ve selected those two folders (located on my server in the "assets" directory) and changed their permissions to writable, but it still gives me errors. any idea what is going on here? i assume it matters that these aren’t writable, despite the fact that my site seems to work again...
thanks!

i figured out the permissions problems with cache and images. (2 and 3 in my list)
it was that i was logging into a weird duplicate copy of my site on their server not the live site. basically just more ipower sucking nonsense.
the register_globals issue still is a question tho. thanks!
