Hi All,
I am trying to implement a new tool for my client. He is a NPO with logos in various languages (100-200 logos). He wants to make the available in the most logical way to the visitors. For the moment we are working with a static table:

¦Language1¦EPS file¦jpg file¦PNG file¦

¦Language2¦EPS file¦N/A¦PNG file¦

etc....
Not all files are available.
I have come up with 3 ideas:
1) I have the client update a massive table in the page (with links to uploaded files). This is heavy and tedious to update.
2) Give the client access to a folder by FTP and have him name the files lang_usage.extension (eg. French_web.jpg) and code a snippet to read all folder files and generate the table. This is long to setup but a breeze to update. Unfortunately if he makes a typo or adds new file types I have to change the snippet.
3) Create a new db table with file names, descriptions and languages and code a snippet to generate a table. I don’t know how to integrate the back office for this in ModX.
My opinion: 1) is simple for me but far from optimal. 2) Is clever but can be risky 3) Is pro but can it be done simply?
Does any one of you have any ideas? FYI the site is not live yet.
How about using MODx itself? Create a document for each logo type. Then check off the variations of the logos, and building the link based on the TV’s.
BTW what is a NPO?

Yes, the backend manager can be daunting for a non-web person. The client would have to create a new document for a new logo. They could use an ftp client to upload directly to assets folder and you can build the links based on the what was checked (but that would required the user to name the files consistently).
Or you might try the resource browser to and use that to upload files. Then you might want to create "File" TV’s like Lang1_PNG, Lang1_EPS, Lang2_PNG, Lang2_EPS

OK I see.
Is it possible to add new tools to the manager? How easy is it?
It might want to create a tool for the user (with uploads and all). Including it on the front page is dead easy.
You might want to check the repository there are snippets that handle file downloading too.

Another idea: You could pull the data from a Google spreadsheet. It’s much easier to update and is open for collaboration.
I’ve pulled data for Google maps using this method, and assume it would be somewhat similar to accessing the static table you are working with now.
Yes, but once the initial logos are uploaded and the entries are created. The maintenance and upkeep would be very simple with individual pages.
I would help the client set up the bulk of the logos to start with, then show them how to edit and add new ones.
With MODx there is always another way!
