Hi, I am really sorry to have to ask this, I know its a really simple request, as I didnt actually set up my cms so,mebody else did and I’ve had to learn quickly since, this is getting me stumped, but I’ve searched everywhere to try find it, I see it mentioned that you have to look for it, but cant find it.
I am trying to set up Webusers Weblogin page, I have the Weblogin Snippet installed, but just cannot find out how to call the [[weblogin]] to get the log in page set up for them
Can somebody point me in the right direction please, so I can set it up?
Thank you.
John
Ok, I was just wondering, I would be willing to pay somebody for some help to set up the gallery for multiple webusers, how would I go about getting paid help?
Ok, I tried doing that you suggested, to install MODx on my local computer (plus installing Apache/PHP/mySQL ), turned outI a to be a bit of a disaster, messed up the pc. Taken me till today to sort it out.
I am still trying to work out how to set up the webuser log in page. I’ve tried looking for the [[webuser]] snippet as has been mentioned above, but I look for it and nothing shows up. I have managed to set up the group Editors, no problem. I’m not asking for somebody to actually do this for me, just to point me in the right direction. Can somebody help please? This is really frustrating because I cant get any further in setting the MaxiGallery up for Editors until I get this sorted.
Thank you.
John.
The easy way of testing and getting MODx figured out is to run it on your local machine. Sure you can install and configure Apache, PHP, MySQL separately, but the easier way is to install a unified package like MAMP (for the MAc) and I think the Windows version is XAMP??
I have not tried the Windows version but MAMP could not be easier. You then copy the MODx archive into the htdocs folder within the MAMP folder. The MAMP folder goes into the systems Applications folder. Again this is how you do things for the Mac. I am sure the Windows method is very similar. Once installed you can then create a data base for MODx and follow the installations procedure for MODx.
Most people will use Wayfinder to get the navigation built.
To create a register and login page there are a couple of choices. One of the powerful snippets is WebLoginPE. Create a document(page) called Register. You can create all your own text and content on this page but the guts of the snippet call for WebLoginPE should look like this:[!WebLoginPE? &registerTpl=`registerform`!] Make sure the page is Published and leave the Cacheable check box empty on the Page Settings tab. Save the page. Open your test site and see if the Register page loads. Try registering. Keep a note of the login name and password as odds are the email function for the snippet will not send a confirmation email while MODx is running locally.
If you are attempting to have web users access a MaxiGallery then you need to decide if you are building a gallery page for each Web User or a combined Group?
You have to install MaxiGallery and establish the Container page for the galleries. There is a specific snippet call for this Container. All your sub galleries follow this container with individual snippet calls that match your individual Web Users.
I went around the bend getting all this to work myself but you will get there.
One suggestion. When you get frustrated try to slow down and ask very clear questions here when looking for help. State specifically what you want to do and what you have done so far.
Some newbies will shout "Can’t get MODx to work..." But the experienced gurus on this board scan the posts looking for detailed questions that fit their own areas of expertise or interest. The more detailed the question is the better the chances you will get good responses. Detailed questions also help the forum overall as all this gets archived...
Good luck!
Max
Hi, thank you for your reply. I have managed to set up a gallery. I am having a few problems with my cms though, and was wondering how do I go about getting some paid help, to try sort it out for me. I notice you have a paid help section, but it looks like its for subscribers, and I think I only need it for one paid help session.
Can somebody point me in the right direction please?
Thank you.
John.
John,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. Not sure how the paid help service works here. Maybe one of the regulars wills chime in.
Is the site hosted locally or on a live server? Its very helpful to have hosted locally as you develop the site. But then its helpful to have a live URL to point to when asking for help etc.
Again, I think its a smart idea to identify the issues and then ask detailed questions here. You may get it sorted out for free! Some folks will create a live testing ground on a secondary website (away from client’s actual sites etc) so they can post the URL for the MODx gurus to look at. Doing so requires some extra effort and time for installing another install of MODx but the hair wrenching aggravation savings may be worth it. Some of the snippet experts are also careful with being provided the login details so they can access the back-end manager.
