Custom tables and friendly urls

My site is a directory style site posting jobs.

I am looking for some advice on creating friendly urls for my custom tables when I am using resources as a view and pulling in information from my custom tables to populate the view.

So I have a resource that uses a snippet to list all the jobs with a read more link, then a sperate resource that would display the full job.

Easy to do with a url that looks something like this:

my-site.com/job.html?id=1

but ideally I am looking at something like

my-site.com/jobs/job-title


Is it just a case of adding an alias field in my database (making sure it is unique) and using a redirect of some sort or is there a better way in modx of achieving this?
