Installation problems with revolution

      Glory! New database. Uploaded new revo download. Made sure to start with a blank config.inc.php. Edited the set-up index as per galienkamp's excellent instructions.

      Worked like a charm. (Like it's s'posed to!)

      Thank you all again. I was really worried. One thing I like best about Modx is the template variables and chunks. Keeps you from having to revamp entire templates. Whew! (That's a big sigh of relief!)

      Now for setting up my new site. Again, I'll most likely be back!

          Here I go again. Now the stylesheet links are not working in the base template.
          I decided to start with an about page since it will be static. Here's the head of the template:

          <head>
<title>[[++site_name]] - [[*pagetitle]]</title>
<base href="[[++site_url]]" />
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text" href="styles/style.css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text" href="/styles/about.css" />
</head>


          No style except for the html.

          in the about.css I have a background image: 
          #nav {background-image:url(../images/petals_about.png);
          That isn't showing up either.

          Directories for styles and images are both in my web root. However, I had moved them to assets and nothing happened there either so I moved them back.

            How I do it:

            I put everything into "assets". There I create a folder called "templates" and another like "2014", containing "images" and "css". So i can devellop another layout in a year or two and just switch all resources to "2016" or so.

            Do you have your site online somewhere to guide you? If you press "f12" in your browser, a tool will open to inspect your website. Maybe you can already see what is wrong smiley

              I have the code in Bluefish and when I open the browser from there, the site looks just like I wanted it to look. All I have done is copy/pasted the css links from one place to another. There really is no reason why this isn't working. It worked in the earlier revo versions but for some reason, it is not picking up the css in this one.

              I've been working on this for three days now (just getting revo running) and I'm pretty fatigued. If I can't do a simple thing like link to a css stylesheet, unfortunately, Modx is no longer a viable solution for me. I have one more thing to try. I'm going to move the style sheets into a style container in resources. Still that won't help me access my images. By the time I get this running, I will probably have to contend with another upgrade. No fun.

              I would think that since css is so very important to web design and development it would be addressed somewhere in the documentation, but it isn't.

                Oh boy. I am really tired. I did another dumb thing. It's working now except for the images. I didn't upload all the html for the page, only the content. Dumb me. I'm sorry for my crank. Think I'll let this go for the rest of today and pick it up tomorrow.

                  Well.. by now it was a first bad upload and now frontend stuff. Neither has to do with MODX smiley

                  I can assure you that you'll like it, when you have it running. Do you work on your local machine? If I can help you, just tell me.

                  Back to start, some basic questions:

                  1) Do you have a template which contains head, body and [[*content]] somewhere in the body? That is the space where your tree to the left will be parsed into.
                  2) Did you move your css to assets/css or similar?
                  3) when you open the source code in the browser (vie source or such), do you see the correct links to css?
                  4) sometimes, you have to delete the cache by the button from the top menu. try that.

                    Yep. I got the whole thing running now. Even did a few TVs and they worked! I'm going to do a contact page next. I see formit has been deprecated in preference to Json Form builder. sad I'm also looking at eForm. I would rather not have to do jquery just for a contact form. A lot of code there for a little content.

                    What contact form do you use?

                      Where did you see that formit info?
