    Hy Folks,

I’m new to MODx and I’m still trying to get the grips on some of the vocabulary. For my background I’m a seasoned front end developer (xhtml, css, js) but have only basic programming skills as I normally work in team with one or more backend developers.

At the moment I’m working on a portfolio type site for a multimedia artist and have my static version of the site pretty much ready and now I’m trying to get the dynamic part together with MODx.

    The sites parts are:

    - news (blog style, no problem with that after looking up the docu in the wiki)
    - contact (static no problem either)
    - projects (thats where my problems start)
    - a project archive (where old projects go)

So as it goes I’m looking for some help as how i should work on the projects part (i don’t expect anyone of you to do my work just some tips on how to start on that part within the MODx environment)

a Project entry consists of the following parts:

    - ProjectTitle (text) -> for use in the Navigation

    - ProjectTitleLong (text)

    - ProjectMetaData

    - ArtistCredit (text) -> what sort of work my client die on the project i.e. Art Direction & Photography [Name]

    - OtherCredits (text, links)
-> these can be anything depending on the project
i.e. Title, Agency, Creative Director and in another case Director, Cinematographer, Sound Engineer

    - ProjectStatus (boolean) -> decides if a project status is fresh or archive

    - PreviewPicture (Image)

    - ProjectDescription (RichText)

    - ProjectMedia (image & flv with caption & title)
-> ProjectMedia can be any number of image and video files (flv using Jeroen Wijering’s flv player)
-> the ProjectMedia should open in a LightWindow or LightView type overlay on click of the preview Picture

The artist should be able to create a new project and upload the used media file via the MODx manager.

So that are my requirements and I’m a bit unsure where to start here i.e. create a new module/chunks/snippets use already coded stuff like ditto etc.

If you would give me some starters on how to get this going I would greatly appreciate it. When I know I’m on the right track I can use the documentation to find my way trough.

    thanks in advance

Can’t you just use ditto for the project work and use a template variable as a filter to show the latest projects? you could have a tv drop down list with Archive, Latest, etc then filter on that value?

Uploading images - just create a tv and set the type to image, then use the image widget (near the bottom) of the same screen, in the manager you can then upload images easily. Then add this to your ditto template rather then the page template.

For flash upload i’m not so sure, it depends on how you embed, but you could create a tv with type file, then add the rest of the code in your ditto template, if each flash file has a different width and height you might need to add two more tv, width, height and add those to the ditto template.

Please note: I’m no modx expert, just how I would do it.

I made my first site with modx

        Hy simonok,

thanks for your reply. I was thinking that the ouput can be done via ditto, however my main problem is that I’m not sure how to do the input mask because of the variable nature of the content i.e. the project credits wich can bei form none to 5 or 6 with different labels wich are not known to beforehand so i can’t use just one tv. What i was thinking about was something like:

        1. create new Project (use Project Template)
        2. input fixed inputs (like Title)
        3. input variable input (add credit (consisitng of label/name/link) with the option to just click add another credit for the second credits line

the same situation for the media files (one or many)

perhaps I’m just stupid here and overlook something

        best regards
