    Hi all

I am currently building a directory type site for a client based around holidays and would appreciate some advice on the best way to tackle it within MODX.

A very quick overview of the site is that users can apply for membership to the site and in essence add holiday listings. There are different levels of listings depending on level of membership (bronze, silver gold etc).

The members will edit and add their listing via a web based interface.

I guess my main question would be has anyone had experience of building something similar? Would you recommend using resources as individual listings or maybe using them as views with custom tables for the listings?

I think a custom table is the way to go. I did something broadly similar that allowed users to sign in to the front end of the website and add records to custom tables.

MODX resources with various snippets then queried the custom tables to display data to public users.

Bob Ray's site has all the details you need to achieve this:

It is a bit of a head scratch the first time you do it but it's worth the effort.

Alternatively MIGXDB can be used but it might require the use to login to the Manager in order to add records which probably isn't an intuitive experience for a casual user. [ed. note: chris.dempsey78 last edited this post 12 years, 1 month ago.]

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your comments.

The only thing I am concerned about with using custom tables is how easy it is to extend the user model. I will need pretty complicated user levels which is the only reason why I was considering using resources as each "article"

shouldn't be that difficult to store permissions for each table-entry and filter by them, depending on modx-user-permissions or depending on user-group-memberships

Thanks Bruno. Having done some reading up I think this is the way I am planning on going.

Its just the permissions part that I am a little sketchy on. Do you know if there are any tutorials on how to do this available?
