Trying to upload some independent PHP files to my server. ModX redirects to 404?

I am trying to upload some php files yo a directory on my server, eg: mydirectory/myphpfile.php

But whenever I try to access them on a browser I am redirected to ModX's 404 page. HTML files in the same directory work fine.

Is there some way I can get Modx to 'ignore' these independent PHP files?

If they are accessible to the server, MODX should never see them. MODX only gets invoked when the web server can't find the file that was requested.
