      Look through the configuration part of the file first. At the very least set a password that is personal. The default configuration is a standard install with no diectories moved or renamed. If you already have MODX installed you may need to change the paths so that they reflect your installation. The default backup directory is above the web root which may or may not work for you.
      When you are done you run the script in your browser, http://yoursite.com/modx_zip.php. Always begin with "Check paths" to make sure it is set up correctly. After that always do a backup before you do anything so that you can restore the site if anything goes wrong.

        OK got it working, thanks.
        This what I have for the core path but when I run check path it says "Cannot find MODX config file. MODX installed?". Modx is installed in the root not in a subfolder.

        // The root of the installation
        'base_path' => public_html,

          If you have a standard installation with everything in the default places and modz_zip.php in the root directory, you need to change the base_path back to the default, ie

          // The root of the installation
          'base_path' => __DIR__,

          __DIR__ = the directory where the script is

            I'm sorry, and I appreciate the help. When I do this I just get a white page.

              You may need to use

              'base_path' => dirname(__FILE__),

              __DIR__ was introduced in PHP v5.3.0.

                  It sounds like you have messed up the file. Possibly by removing a comma from the end of a configuration line? Check that every line ends with a comma. Or better, download the file again and be careful when you edit the configuration.
