Hi,
I'm relatively new to Modx and have been trying to get the FormIt's mail to work but fail to do so. I believe the mail is simply not working regardless of FormIt or not.
The email is using Gmail as the MX server, I followed Gmail's smtp setting and it still doesn't send any mail (even for user signup, etc.)
Is there a way to help debug and see where and what is wrong?
Any help and suggestion will be greatly appreciated!
Sil
Install QuickEmail and run it. It will often help diagnose email problems.
Thanks BobRay! I'll give it a try.
I got SMTP connect() failed. Here is my log:
Server Debug Information:
2014-08-27 21:22:25 SERVER -> CLIENT:
2014-08-27 21:22:25 CLIENT -> SERVER: EHLO domain.com
2014-08-27 21:22:25 SERVER -> CLIENT:
2014-08-27 21:22:25 SMTP ERROR: EHLO command failed:
2014-08-27 21:22:25 SMTP NOTICE: EOF caught while checking if connected
SMTP connect() failed.
Any idea?
That usually means that the mail servers's name is wrong or missing. It looks like something is set to 'domain.com' which would be an example that's supposed to be changed, probably to your domain name.
Actually, I just replaced it with a generic domain for the post's purpose. It was listed with the right domain name.
Does the site being in the dev. subdomain makes it fail? cause my development environment is under dev. subdomain.
I'm not sure. Servers are sometimes finicky about sending through an off-site SMTP server. Sometimes they want the from and reply-to addresses to be local.
I hate debugging email problems and usually end up doing a lot of trial and error.
I assume that you're using the MODX SMTP system settings. Aside from username and password, what are they set to?

That shouldn't be a problem. I have used Gmail as the SMTP server for my localhost installations quite a lot. They are all in subdomains.
I'll do it again with Gmail and see how it goes.
Used the
information here on a localhost installation in a subdirectory and it works as expected.
Did you run QuickEmail with the &debug=`1` property? It provides a lot of information.

It always works on localhost, but I'm pretty sure I've run into hosts that had restrictions on what kinds of messages they'll forward to SMTP servers. I could be wrong. I know I had a case where the 'from' address was on a domain that had expired and no SMTP messages got through, though that could have been an issue with Gmail.

Ok, I see where that might be the case.
