I've just inherited a MODX site that someone else built. I've never used MODX before, but it seems fairly straight forward except...

The main page has placeholder text as the content - I can see it in the CMS and in the cache file via ftp. The real content, that is showing up on the site seems to only exist in the cache file. I've no idea why he set it up this way.

I need to be able to edit the site within the CMS - is there any way to bring the cached version back as the real content?

      Welcome to MODX.

Are you sure that the content is not stored within the template files and the content fields within the admin panel have not been linked to the templates using placeholders?

It seems extremely odd to have cached content which does not show within the admin if setup correctly.

You don't need to worry about the cache. All content is in the Manager interface, unless they are set to be "static". The Resource Tree on the left of the Manager page reflects the pages as they are organized for your menus, more or less.

For example, the "Home" page is almost always resource #1, the first resource in the Tree. Its content field makes the unique text for that page. A "static" resource will only have a path to its file in place of the content.

Yes! Thank you. That's exactly where it was hiding. The entire page is in the template, with no content coming from the page itself. It is an odd way to set it up, except it's a single page site he seems to have built in Foundation, and then just pasted into the template.

Ugh. I hate sites like that. I can never figure out where stuff is coming from!

Odd is right. Normally, the content you might want to edit would be pasted into the content field of the resource and this tag in the Template would go where you wanted that content:

              [[*content]]
