During the pre-install validation phase, everything checks out OK until it gets down to :

"Creating connection to the database: "

It just sits there. No ok...

    Any ideas?

    w2K3 Rs
    Apache 2.2
    MySql 5.0.51a-win32.msi
    PHP 5.2.5

I did all the things that were recommended on MODx site and on http://oss.segetech.com/wamp.html

    Regards

MySQL 5.0.51 in any flavor is going to cause all sorts of problems for MODx. I don’t know if this is related to your install issue, but wanted to point that out.

        I uninstalled MySQL 5.0.x

        I installed MSQL 5.1 (MYSQL-Essential-5.1.23-rc-win32.msi )

Still same problem.... can not connect to Mysql

I was able to go to the MySQL command line and create my database and show database etc

        Any thoughts now?

Hummm... maybe it has something to do with the "Essential" version of MySQL...going to download the other MSI that is twice as big...and see if that works

          Nope.... just installed:
          mysql-5.1.23-rc-win32

Modx still has no luck making a connection to the database that is on the same server (localhost)

Which rev of MySQL is it safer to go to (instead of 5.0.51a) Is it better to go to 5.1 or back to 4.1.22 ?

              Got it working!

              Two things I did differently.

              1) Created database BEFORE installing Modx

              2) I downgraded to 4.1 MySQL from 5.1... although this was probably not necessary... just don’t use 5.0

5.0.x is fine as long as it’s not the .51x release.
