There are now preview images from the svg file on both manager page and file system. (Please see images)

Check the imageExtensions field in the media source's properties.

Well, it looks like that won't help. I'm not sure if phpthumb, which MODX uses to generate its thumbnails, can deal with .svg images.
It does allow the image to be shown in the Files tab list, though.
