My aim is to have the site footer editable from one place in a rich text box and have that content show up across the whole site. I have this currently working with a chunk but wnat it in a richtext box for someone who is less technical than me to be able to edit it.

I've tried using a TV which would be perfect but I find that these can only be output when viewing the specific page they were input on.

Can someone give me a link or info on the best way to achieve this, I know this must have been asked lots but I cant find a working example.

    Thanks

Use a resource with no template. Install FastField, or pdoTools and install its custom parser (which is taken from FastField) and use it like this, with 123 being the ID of the footer resource:
      [[#123.content]]

Or, for an even simpler editing interface with a lot more initial setup effort, again use a resource, but use getResources and NewsPublisher to have an "edit" button on the footer for logged-in users. Your getResources tpl would look something like this:
         [[+content]][[!NpEditThisButton? &np_edit_id=`[[+id]]`]]

Yes yes yes that fastfield is exactly what I needed, I have now created a new resource which has its own template with a number of richtext TV's assigned to to enable all them other non main content fields to be edited.

        Thanks again for that info

You can use a Form Customization profile to hide all the fields of the resource that you don't need.
