Template Variables will not save? any ideas why

Hi i am working on one of my first MODx sites a model agency. we aim to use tvExplorer snippet in the near future and have decided to use TVs for the models stats.
i have 6 tvs for both male and female templates, they are height, waist size, shoe size etc etc.
whats really bugging me is that for some reason some of these TVs are not saving.
the TVs are all text only. they are assigned to the correct templates. the text i am inputing is nothing unusual, stuff like 5,10" 32" etc. i have checked each one for type erors. even tho some work for some pages and some dont work for other pages?
what could this be?

Hmm, there is a bug with the TV-saving on some setups - are you running MySQL 5 in strict mode by any chance? We’re trying to diagnose the cause of the TV bug so any additional info you can provide about your setup would be invaluable.

@ garryn yes i have just found the the thread for the bug, i am currently trying with autotext off on FF ubuntu.
i have shared hosting will take a look at cPanel and try to find out if mysql is in strict mode.
i just thought i solved it when i typed in my tv fields by ignoring the autotext,and continuing to type, but that didnt save all 6 tvs just 4! ?

sql mode is set to blank, so no strict mode enabled
sql version is 4.1.22-standard
modx 0.9.6.1
linux/apache/cpanel
i am on ubunto with FF and web developer plugin. still no joy TVs are saving randomly and mostly not saving.
i will fire up a windows machine and see if that has the same problem

i have a feeling that if i asked my host to enable strict mode they wont, when i asked them to enable PDOMySQL for Magento they didnt want to , maybe time to change host?
