I have adopted a site from somebody else and have it up and running at a service provider using Installatron for installations/updates. I just upgraded everything successfully to 2.3.1

Since when I took it over there is just one annoying thing. The Files part showes me all the files in the file system over at the provider site (e.g. stylesheets). The problem is that they are all locked (indicated with a lock icon). Now I cannot edit or quick edit them. The only thing I can do is ftp and then upload them again. This works but is cumbersome.. Anybody can help me with this? Thanks a lot [ed. note: wietsepost last edited this post 12 years, 2 months ago.]

It could be that your user does not have permissions to edit the files from within the manager, or they do not have the correct read write execute permissions for modx to write to them.

What user group are you in ?

Hi, I am the Admin User of the website which is part of the Administrator User Group. The site is at a service provider and I am accessing it via the manager backend. Some files are not locked and some files are locked. My feeling is it has to do with the properties of the files at the other side in the file system. I was wondering when ModX decides to show the Lock icon. Is the file read-only, or is write access missing?

[update] I used the file manager of the provider and found that these files had permissions set to 644. Updating them to 666 resolved the issue. Thanks for the help! [ed. note: wietsepost last edited this post 12 years, 2 months ago.]

You should use your FTP client, or the service provider's control panel, to check the file permissions. They probably should be 755 for folders and 644 for files, but this depends on how the service provider configures the server. You should contact them to ask what file permissions the site should use.
