Answered Local Apache Server: UI Inconsistencies

On my local dev server I noticed the icons that appear in the Manager pickers https://www.dropbox.com/s/4oputwtpighvgys/picker2.tiff and https://www.dropbox.com/s/id1imfvt00xg16k/picker1.tiff are missing, but when viewed on the remote server they render fine. So far it seems to only affect these form elements, none of the other Manager graphics are missing. Functionally the local site works identically to the remote version, no problems other than the missing icons.

I run MAMP from an admin account but I work from a non-admin one. I've never noticed anything like this with other CMS so I'm not sure if it's a local server setting (mime type or permissions, perhaps?) or if it's specific to Revo. It's not a big deal but I am curious to know what the cause is.

I've been working with MAMP local servers for years, and I've never seen that. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies. If that doesn't help, completely replace your /manager/ directory from a fresh download and extraction of the zip file.

Can you explain why compression would cause the problem?

I'm just guessing, but I think that the trouble is mainly caused by the concatenation of JS files prior to compressing them. If a JS file doesn't have proper braces and semicolons, it may run on it's own, but will break things if concatenated with other files.

Is it ok to compress CSS but not js or should they both be set to one or the other?

Won't hurt anything. Odd, I've never had a problem with it.

I still think something's amiss with the local server settings/access rights otherwise I would expect to see the same problem on the remote server.

Perhaps. Are you using the default MAMP htdocs directory for your web root?
