I am currently using Yola (Yola.com) to create my website. It has worked well for me but there are two issues that I need to address which is why I am considering Modx.

    1. I need something that is free. Right not it is costing me about $100/yr with Yola.
    2. I need something that will manage all the data that I have (radio shows, playlists, interviews etc...)
    3. A first rate forum and support when I require it.
    4. The ability to work on my site and make modifications quickly and from any location.

I host a Jazz radio show called In Transition (25 years). Over the years I have recorded many of my radio shows (mp3 format). All of my data is up on my server site (hostmonster.com). So the content I am dealing with consists of mp3 and pdf files.

I also have Modx installed as well as Concrete5 and Wordpress on my server.

It's a jungle out there when it comes to CMS's. So as you can tell, I'm undecided as to what I should do next. I do know some basic html and css but only want to use this when required.

    My current site is www.mcran.com

My test site is mcrantest2.yolasite.com/ (I use this site to brainstorm ideas etc...)

My basic operating system is Linux. I also use an old iMac as well running Snow Leopard.

I have also found a site that I think will serve me well understanding ModX (http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/modx/). Any other recomendations would be extremely helpful. I work best watching videos.

Look forward to all the help I can get and just wanted to properly introduce myself to the ModX community. smiley

    Thanks!!!

IMHO the best place to start learning Modx is this set of tutorials: http://codingpad.maryspad.com/beginner-tutorials/. It is a little bit out of date, but not enough to be of concern. Sorry, not videos...

Be aware that Revolution may not work well on free hosting. It's a case of "you get what you pay for". You might want to try Evolution, which is much more likely to work better on free hosting.

My Hostmonster hosting site is a paid site so I should be OK. Is Evolution an older version of ModX? Would I be better off as a beginner to use Evolution instead? Hostmonster came with I think version 2.2.14? I think if I remember that was the version.

I'll check out the coding pad as well.

          Thanks!

Ok. I thought you meant a free hosting service. Hostmonster should be OK.

I'd recommend using Revolution. It will be an easier transition from there to MODX 3.0, which is intended to replace both Evolution and Revolution.

Agreed. The only reason I would fall back to Evo after turning to the Dark Side two or three years ago (how time flies!) would be for a weak server. Evo is much lighter on server requirements.
