Answered Struggling to get ModX site to run locally

That reminds me... I need to get my current client to get himself a copy of SiteCheck. No serious site should be without it!

in the db the workspaces table has 1 line:
1 Default MODX workspace {core_path} 2014-02-10 21:34:45 1


My config file has this:

Does this look right?

I am moving from 2.2.13 (live) to 2.2.14 (local). Ive tried the cache deleting.

Can I disable the htacess file for now?


And do I need htdocs/testsite/ (all the folders) OR can I have htdocs/testsite/(contents of docs only) since it seems everything important is in the docs folder?

I understand absolute urls and relative - obviously id prefer relative! this is a real pain. I want to get going on ModX - it looks exciting for a dirty php coder like me. No restrictions

plus I also dont know what template file I need to edit to change the base_url.. can anyone give me a hint here? Do I need to look for a tpl file and find the head code??

In Manager, for the page (found in resources) you're trying to load, it will either specify the template used as a property to that resource. If it is using a template, note the name of the template, then go to the Elements tab, and then go into Templates, open up the template the page uses and you should see it there. If not, you can add it using a setting or hard code it if all else fails.

If that's the case, I'd start by doing what Bob suggested: running an install on the local machine. Sometimes files get corrupted when being transferred to and from a server. Just download the proper version of MODX and get that up and running first.

It looks like you missed the lines for setting the ASSETS_PATH, it's almost at the bottom of the config.inc.php file.

What I do is use the search-and-replace "replace all" feature in my text editor to replace all instances of /oldpath/oldstuff/ to /newpath/newstuff/. In the sample you showed above, you don't have at least two other definitions. You need to adjust all of these:

• $modx_core_path
• $modx_processors_path
• $modx_connectors_path
• $modx_connectors_url
• $modx_manager_path
• $modx_manager_url
• $modx_base_path
• $modx_base_url
• $modx_assets_path
• $modx_assets_url

cool ill double check, that was just a sample of my page, no everything, since it contained most of the rest. Ive actually just made a basic variable so i dont have to edit 10 lines @ a time.

I once participated in changing the head gasket on a '65 Mustang. That was interesting. Much like changing servers...

I once changed a head gasket on my son's Rabbit diesel. One of the head bolts broke off with about 1/8" sticking out. I filed it to a hex shape and used a box wrench on it. It spun right out and my son thought I was a genius.
