Answered phpThumb Woes after upgrade to 2.3.0

Thanks everyone for the workaround tips, commenting out the duplicate lines in core/model/phpthumb/phpthumb.class.php worked for me.

I see now that 2.3.1 has fixed the problem, so I'm in the process of updating now.
