    Hi,

I would like to import a job posting application in modx. The application has 3 parts

Admin Section - create categories and assign coordinators to categories, manage fronted password, manage account for coordinators
Coordinator Section - publish job postings, create subcategories, post jobs in subcategories etc
Frontend - post jobs, view jobs etc

I see 3 ways of merging this application with modx:

    1. keep the application separately from modx. in root folder I will have a folder called jobs and link to it
Cons - in this case the administration for this application is different than the one for modx
    Pros - Easy to implement

    2. use snippets to include files: [[include listjobs.php]]
Cons - I have 2 admin sections. One for modx one for the job application
    - I have to change all the files by removing the headers an footers etc
    Pros - ??

    3. create some sort of plugin/snippet ?
Cons - Where to start. Can I allow only certain users to access this plugin/snippet? Something like DocManager
    Pros - One admin section

Is there an easier way or a recommended way of doing this?

    Thank you

The thing to do is to have the administration features in a module (like docmanager) and the display part (registration form, jod list, etc...) of it as snippets.

Are you building the job board from scratch or are you using a ready-made solution? Have you seen JobberBase, it looks very interesting http://www.jobberbase.com/

it’s already built. Actually is custom made but not so complicated.

Just out of curiosity, have you done any integration with MODx and jobberbase? I’m not sure it’s completely necessary to do, but I really like the way the access/user levels work in MODx, and I think it would be waste to try to rebuild for jobberbase.

I used Codeigniter to build my own application and link to it from within the website

I’m about to roll out a job listing site using only MODx myself. My approach would be to use Documents as the job listings (displayed with Ditto), and create a new group(s) in MODx that would allow for posting and another for viewing, along with the rest of the details xpix described for the Admin, Coordinator, & Frontend. At least that’s what I have planned, so far.

The listings could be separated into categories, and could even be searchable through the tvExplorer snippet. The catch I have to deal with is it’s a paid subscription site. Here’s some of the details about that part.

              • The listings are posted by a group that pays one amount and the jobs are viewed by a group that pays another amount.
              • The jobs will be listed for 2 weeks.
              • Subscriptions will be monthly.
              • Subscribers will sign up and pay through a MODx shopping cart.

So, xpix, why would you not just do this directly from MODx? I agree, though, it would be awesome if there were a snippet or plugin that already did this!

I already knew how to solve all the problems using plain php(with the help of codeigniter).
...and some clients are not web savvy and it seems modx is too much for them

Ok. I totally agree about the complexity issue. Since my site is a paid membership, and I’m going to have blue-collar workers using it, this is a big concern for me. I’m going to have to get most everything working on the front end.

Have you looked in the WebLoginPE or FrontEndDocument Manager snippets?

It will sound weird: One and half years into modx and never used those snippets smiley

I actually haven’t either. Same time spent in MODx. I just thought those might be ways to help emulate a job board.
