    I'm trying to come up to speed with MIGXdb and have read through the official rtfm documentation, tutorials, and anything else i could find but still there's a lot missing. I'm trying to find a comprehensive document (Similar to Wayfinder manual) describing all of the avaialble fields on all of the MIGX tabs and what they do. The tutorials just list their configuration without really explaining what each value means and does.

    I can see that MIGX offers a lot of flexibility and power but i seem to be stuck in the initial stage just trying to understand what the different parts do. A list of fields with short explanations similar to other extras would go a long way to straighten the learning curve.

    Does such a document exist? And if yes where can it be found?
    Thanks in advance.

      There isn't any. I keep meaning to get into it, but then something else comes up...

        Thanks Susan,
        i was afraid of that. Guess i'll need to persevere.
        MIGX is a tremendous addition to MODX. The lack of documentation is the only thing that's holding it back.
        I'll be happy to help with reviewing anything you'll find time to write on the subject.

          Holly molly,
          MIGXdb is much, much more complex than i imagined. So i found Bruno's add-on for MIGX called migxResourceRelations, which is almost exactly what i'm trying to do. I figured i'd install it and then modify to what i need.
          Here's a small part of one of the 3 MIGX configurations that came with with the extra:

          {
            "id":69,
            "name":"migxresourcerelations_source",
            "formtabs":"[]",
            "contextmenus":"",
            "actionbuttons":"",
            "columnbuttons":"activate||deactivate||publishtarget||unpublishtarget",
            "filters":[
              {
                "MIGX_id":1,
                "name":"source_parent",
                "label":"parent",
                "emptytext":"filter Parent",
                "type":"treecombo",
                "getlistwhere":{
                  "parent":"[[+source_parent]]"
                },
                "getcomboprocessor":"gettreenode",
                "combotextfield":"pagetitle",
                "comboidfield":"id",
                "comboparent":""
              },
          ...

          the whole file is 10 times longer than that.
          So here goes a really stupid question. None of rtfm MIGXdb documents mention filters, or getlistwhere, or getcomboprocessor, etc. Where would one find information about these parameters?

            I think a lot of that is ModEXT stuff, from the manager/assets/modext/ directories. That's one thing holding me back from digging into MIGx and its siblings, the ExtJS and ModExt stuff. It's way out of my comfort zone.

              a little bit about how to add filters:
              http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/migxdb/migxdb.tutorials/migxdb.manage-events-resources-in-a-cmp-with-help-of-migxdb#MIGXdb.ManageEvents-ResourcesinaCMPwithhelpofMIGXdb-Filters

              you do not need to mess with the configuration-json.
              They can be added with the Configurator - CMP.

                Hi Bruno,
                thanks for taking the time to chime in. With all of the projects in your repository you must be very busy.
                I did notice that all those parameters are available through the UI, looking at JSON was just easier to see everything at once.
                Unfortunately even in the UI field tooltips don't contain any information about what each parameter does, so it's a lot of trial and error. Perhaps you have some notes or PHPdocs for MIGXdb to get an idea of what's possible.

                For example, i'm trying to relate resources to each other and migxRelateResources seems to be the right tool, but i have different types of relationships which will be defined in separate TVs. I was thinking of adding a new field rel_type to the relationship table to take care of that. Is that the right way to do it, or should i have separate tables for each relationship type?

                Thanks in advance.

                  to add a field rel_type and have another table with rel-type-names sounds like the better idea, than having a seperate table for each rel-type

                    Hi Bruno,
                    the more i work with MIGXdb and the relations module the more i recognize how much of serious programmer you are. This stuff is very powerful.
                    I did run into a couple of issues though.
                    1. On the source tv configuration i'm trying to get the parent filter to limit to only a sub-branch and not the whole resource tree. How would i do that? I tried to create a property on the TV itself that would store the id of the sub-branch root and insert it into the filter's default value like this [[+type_root_id]] but it did not parse the placeholder, just showed it as is.
                    2. The treecombo in the parent filter shows the resource tree incorrectly. The resurces that are on the same level in the main resource tree are shown as parents-children in the treecombo box.
                    3. In the main grid i need to include not only the children of the filter parent but their childrens's children and so on all the way to the bottom of the sub-branch. How would i do that?

                    Any pointers or suggestions would be very helpful. I'm stuck right now but really would like to perservere and learn MIGX.
                    Thanks in advance.

                      could you show your current MIGX-configuration(s) for that, by doing import/export at the MIGX-configurations-grid and copy/paste this json-array here?
                      And your xpdo-schema, please?
