I’m not sure if this is a bug or a configuration problem. I’ve been building a site for awhile now with no noticeable problems. Yesterday, I requested several files and got a "problem with page" error. I tried about an hour later and was able to get the pages. Today I’m having the same problem. I’ve got friendly URLs turned on (and friendly paths). I tried requesting the files by directly coding the URLs and got the same error.
I’m not sure what to do to troubleshoot this. The http logs look fine. I’m using Apache 2.2.3 and MODx 0.9.6.
How does XAMPP or MAMP help?
I have full access to the server, so I can do whatever I want. However, I don’t think anything is changing back and forth the way this error is showing up. It’s working again this morning after not working last night.
Would MODx return this message if the mySQL server times out? I suppose I could look further there.
Can you post the actual error message. Sometimes the error itself gives hints to what is causing it.
I’m afraid I wasn’t very clear about the error. The exact error message is "Sorry, but there seems to be a problem with that page. Please alert us and try another page." I can’t produce this error deterministically, and I didn’t have access to it when I wrote my post.
Any ideas?
BTW, my cache is really small right now, and the pages in it are small, so that couldn’t possibly be an issue.
Well, this is really embarrassing to admit, but maybe it’ll be worth fessing up for the sake of some other sucker.
The problem was simply that some documents weren’t published. When I was logged into the manager in a separate tab, they showed up; otherwise, they didn’t. I didn’t make the connection until today.
Thanks to those who made suggestions.
