character everywhere after database table restore

I just restored my modx_site_content table and now I have the  character all over my website. My config.inc.php file has a charset of 'utf8' and the database table structure is utf8_general_ci.

Is there a fix for this? I really don't want to manually go thru hundreds of resources

I changed my charset to 'latin1' and this seems to have cleared things up.....but now I'm seeing � in some places. [ed. note: taiyo1578 last edited this post 12 years, 3 months ago.]

It's almost certainly an encoding issue. There is not only the character set/encoding of the DB, each table and each text field also has a specified encoding (these will show in PhpMyAdmin).

After setting things to Latin1, you may have a mismatch between the DB and the tables or fields. Also, if the data is in one encoding and you change the DB encoding to something else, you have another kind of mismatch.
