Try getting your page to validate first...
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Frcoders.com%2Fbeta%2Fcms%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
you probably hate me by now.
anyway I got the links to show in IE, but they’re vertical and not showing the style effects.....
any easy work around to this? I have NO problem using Tables instead of all CSS....
help?

No hate

but unfortunately I don’t have access to IE right now, so I can’t help much more.
It looks ok to me in IE7. Maybe you didn’t empty your browser cache?

got it working before you saw it probably. I changed the CSS around alot... made some chunks use straight up table cells instead of css based. I swear to god I can still make tables more x-browser compatable than most CSS out there without as much hassle because there isn’t 999 differences between browsers for table based layouts.
but apparently I’m in a minority and tables are being phased out.
haters.
anyway thanks for the help.

I have some sympathy for your position. For static web sites that you don’t plan to remodel often, tables can be very cross-browser compatible, especially for 3-column fluid designs. And you don’t have to worry about the next browser revision breaking something. You’re right, though, the anti-table crowd has become increasingly vicious and dogmatic.
There’s a reason that virtually all of the css Zengarden designs are two columns and why the "holy grail" is called that when it’s fairly trivial to do the same thing with tables.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that... I had an old site (Etomite) using tables, with the menu in the leftmost <td>. For some reason I never was able to figure out, on one page the menu would be doubled in width; the same page in all three other language groups was just fine, the menu was fine in all the other pages of that group. So after fighting with it, examining the source, rewriting the page content, anything else I could think of, I updated the site to a table-free template, and have absolutely no problems with it. IE has its quirks no matter what you do.
