I have a few questions. I’m trying to replace a site that my wife setup while I deployed for my baby. It has a growth chart and a milestones section. Anything in Modx that would allow me to make these? Also a ’born on’ date?

    Any help would be appreciated.

More information on this would be helpful. I would think separate documents and Ditto would be the best approach but if you could explain how your output should ideally look.

      Cheers,

        Making a baby site
I thought that storks brought baby sites, and that th sites would grow to become adult sites, then they go off to work at either an e-commerce site or get a departmental job at a portal. The toughest phase are the adolescent sites grin

Anyway, kidding aside, I agree with smashingred that independant documents with custom template variables for all the growth aspects (hight, weight, etc..) and use Ditto to display this as a table or grid.

the site structure would be somethng like this, using the dates of the measurement as the pagetitle.

        -Growth Chart
        --jan-01-08
        --jan-07-08
        --jan-14-08
        --etc...

As for the birth date and other variables, you can set up as many Template variable as needed to personalize your data.

You could also create a chunk to hold the birthdate. Another option would b be to write a little php script (snippet) using a php date() to get the days old (I actually think there is an example on the php.net site in the date() entry.

Alright I got the ’born on’ date part.
I guess I just need to figure out what I want to do for the Milestones page. I was just wondering if something was already implemented that was close to it. For the growth chart I think i’m going to have to photoshop up a chart.

I saw some Flash charts feed by an xml file on http://www.flashkit.com/ somewhere.
I had a quick play with one before deciding it wasn’t what the client really wanted.
              Might be worth a look?

Why not just create a snippet that checks the value of the last measurement and then use a CSS background image of say 1000px and decide that the container height will be a relationship to the height so 12px = 1 inch or some such and then as the child grows and you update the height it wil grow.

If you want to do a milestone growth chart that may be more tricky but you could do it all with CSS and some images pulling the height from your TV.

You could have the background as a doorframe or some such and have the lines be images and use "comical sans" as your font.
