in chrome at on certain links instead of rendering the page it downloads it with the following content (see below).

I can not figure out what causes this but it seems to be cache related as when I turn off the cache it does not happen.

gzip compression is on in htaccess.

Could it be because of the strange expirey date? "Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981"

any suggestions very welcome as I could not find the problem nor solution.

What happens if you turn the gzip compression off? This looks like a dump of the zipped content. The readable part is the actual HTTP headers, but if you notice, there is an odd character at the very beginning.

        thanks for the quick reply!

well if I turn it off in .htaccess it still happens.

However as below it still says Content-Encoding: gzip. Does that mean it is not really off? It is definatly off in the htaccess file.

I dunno. I've heard of this, but I've never seen it myself before.

I wonder... could it be a BOM marker in a file somewhere? Is this a random thing, or is it always in certain specific pages?

it is random if you click again on the same link it works. to find the error I need to click many links for it to occur. Really don't know what else to try.

Not aware of a BOM marker however I will have a look, I did not put one anywhere

also the strange thing is that this only happens in chrome all other browsers are fine.
