When I try to run the update for updating my site, I get errors like:

Warning: touch(): Utime failed: Permission denied in /home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_template.php on line 254

Warning: rename(/home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/cache/setup/smarty/cdf5e7479e801bf8f947c5a86156b1cab9981d1d.file.header.tpl.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_write_file.php on line 42

Warning: rename(/tmp/wrtcz0KO3,/home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/cache/setup/smarty/cdf5e7479e801bf8f947c5a86156b1cab9981d1d.file.header.tpl.php): Permission denied in /home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_write_file.php on line 42

Warning: chmod(): Operation not permitted in /home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_write_file.php on line 44

There are about 20 of them.

I am not sure what they mean or how to fix them. Can anyone help me out?

    Thanks!

      Hello,

Could you tell us about your hosting environment? This sounds like a permission issue related to how your server(s) are configured.

Do you know how Apache is configured to interact with PHP - for example suPHP/mod_php/php fcgi? You should also have more information regarding the errors in your apache logs, could you share what's being output on that end?

Sorry, I am not really familiar enough to do that kind of thing

On examining the errors I think this one is causing all the others:

Warning: include(/home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/cache/setup/smarty/a2b9296b2cd7b74ba799b1e2f585cb6d0e3eb1d8.file.language.tpl.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_template.php on line 422

            Checking line 422 I see:

            include($this->getCompiledFilepath ());

But this makes no sense to me

              Hi meltingdog,

I would first check to see if this file exists in the location where it is looking for it, specifically if
              /home/pixelpeo/public_html/core/cache/setup/smarty/a2b9296b2cd7b74ba799b1e2f585cb6d0e3eb1d8.file.language.tpl.php

this file is there. If it is, it's a permission issue, but not likely with that one file but rather than the directory itself. I'm not a Linux/UNIX person, but on my modxcloud account, the directories shows permissions as drwxr-xr-x. To me this looks like a grade 9 algebra question, but I'd hazzard a guess that your permissions have to be set to something similar.

If it isn't there, I don't know what to suggest. I would normally recommend clearing the cache (Site > Clear cache) but if this is on setup, there's no manager to do this on.

              Hope this helps,
              Regards,
              Tom

Did you copy the files individually with FTP? If so, it's fairly common to have missing or corrupted files.

                  I found the issue:

For whatever reason I was unable to delete or overwrite my core folder - even via FTP.

I just renamed it to coreOLD and it works.

                  Weird
