I have users of the CMS who know enough about how to edit documents and upload images through the FCKEditor interface... I’m hoping there’s an easy way to allow them to also upload pdfs, zip files, and the like. After they upload the documents, they would obviously need to be able to easily create a link for the website visitor to be able to download the document. I was hoping the fckeditor would allow that, but I tried clicking on the image icon , then went into the image manager and tried to upload a .zip file, and it said "Error, disallowed file type". Changing allowed file types in the modx configuration page didn’t affect fckeditor’s rules... Help please?

In the Modx Manager, you can go to Tools | Configuration | File Manager, and modify the setting for "Uploadable File Types." Just add the ones you want and save.

thanks, I was trying to upload from within the html editor, but I’ve now realized that I can give my users access to the resource/ manage files screen in the manager and they can upload from there. They just have to copy the link location by right clicking on the floppy disk icon and copying the shortcut, then they have to go back to the html editor and create the hyperlink.... this can be trained. It would just be nice if it was completely integrated into the html editor. IE. they upload, then select the uploaded file to create the hyperlink in the document they’re working on, all in one process.
