Github says it's disabled by default, but with rank as default sort key: https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/blob/develop/_build/data/transport.core.system_settings.php#L369

Sites that were installed with a version before 2.2.0 (https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/commit/30ac4cf05b5c70705bf19dd3b8036774b262789a was introduced in 2.2.0) could have the default set to key because settings are not changed during an upgrade.

funny... :-/ checked a fresh installation via softaculous scriptinstaller and a fresh one made by hand. turns out the scriptinstaller delivers the old 'key' setting, while the really fresh one delivers 'rank' as default. what the...!
