Here are the instructions for NewsManager:
* Create the snippets NewsManager and NewsEditor.
* Create 2 pages:
o one with the [!Newsmanager &folder=`<your news folder ID>` &editformid=`<id of page with NewsEditor snippet>` !].
o one with the [!NewsEditor &folder=`<your news folder ID>` &postid=`<id of page with NewsManager snippet>` !]
You don’t put Snippet calls on Documents. You put them in Chunks or in Templates, correct?
So what does "Create 2 pages" actually mean here? In order to get an ID, the "page" must be a Document. In order to have Snippet calls, it must be something other than a Document.
Yet another piece of info that will go on my MODx tips file to help people in the future...
You can put snippet calls in Documents...
But true the correct terminology is "document" and not "page".
In the case of NewsManager, this mean you have to create two documents and place the snippet calls as instructed. Another example of snippet used this way is AjaxSearch : you have a call for the search form, and one for the search results.

When you create a new Document, you get a TinyMCE editor. I’m supposed to type [!NewsEditor &folder=`7` &postid=`<id of page with NewsManager snippet>` !] in there?
Yes
Using a snippet in a document is pretty common actually, depending on your needs you can place a snippet call in a chunk, a template, a document...
Don’t be afraid to try

Thank you, David. It’s not that I’m afraid to try. It’s more like I try everything and get so mixed up that I have to give up for another day. A real time-waster.
Since you’ve been following this NewsManager issue, maybe you could help me figure out how I actually use this code now that I’ve created all the necessary Snippets and Documents... I placed a question in the General Support Repository under a the post title NewsManager here:

Hmmm, I am afraid I have never used NewsManager much and when I need this kind of features I favor
FrontendDocumentManager (FDM) which has more flexiblity...

Thanks very much for your help. The simplest thing seems like an impossible challenge for me. Maybe it would be easier just to learn PHP.
Don’t discourage, while it might seem so, believe me I have tried to start learning PHP and it will probably take longer...
You’ll get into it... my advice still is to switch to NewsPublisher or FDM.

I’ll try NewsPublisher. I gave up on FDM before I started because the 20-page long thread was full of problems and unresolved issues. No way I can succeed if everyone else is having so much difficulty.
FDM is being rewritten for 0.9.7 with xPDO, it’s true that the current "branch" is dropped but it works fine from my experience...
NewsPublisher is a proven solution and still part of the core snippets.
