I have about 150 pages on a site that utilize a TV that has the input type set to URL. I'm thinking of changing the TV input type to Image so that the user can use that field to upload what is meant to be downloaded there (PDFs). At this moment, the system is set up inefficiently, in my opinion, so that the user needs to upload the PDFs to the server, then add a link to them through the TV.

Can these TVs be changed to Image without any problems? It would be an extreme amount of work to delete them and redo them each separately.

I already tested this by creating a test TV, set to URL, add a link in there and then change it to an image one. It worked okay for the test. But, going ahead and changing the actual TVs for real makes me want to ask all your opinions first.

In the template (through a chunk) I'm calling the link this way:

    <a href="[[*archive_journal_link_volume_1]]"><img src="[[*archive_journal_image_volume_1:phpthumbof=`&w=200&zc=1`]]" alt="[[*archive_journal_alt_volume_1]]" title="[[*archive_journal_title_volume_1]]"><br />[[*archive_journal_label_volume_1]]</a>

    It's the:

    [[*archive_journal_link_volume_1]]

...part that is currently set to URL that I want to change to Image.

    Thanks.

changing the input type shouldn't change any TV - values, which are allready stored to the db.

But wouldn't be the file-TV-type the better one for PDFs ?

Hmmm.... didn't think of that. I'll try that, thanks.

For a file input type, should the output type setting be set for 'text'? [ed. note: waizen last edited this post 12 years, 5 months ago.]
