Is it practical to use only ModxCms APIs (like PEAR, or like PHPCake) instead of using the whole thing.
xpix:
This is part of what is going on with the upcoming 0.9.7 release. The current releases of MODx are not useful as libraries and are very procedural in nature. Part of the OO redesign/rewrite that represents the foundation of the upcoming release is to be able to use the new APIs as a reusable, stand-alone core library on which you can deploy any number of sites. In this sense, MODx is attempting to become more of a framework, but is currently a little more of a CMS.
Feel free to get involved in the efforts going on with 0.9.7 (currently in alpha status) if you are interested in learning more about how the new MODx core will serve as such a library.
