Ok, for some reason i’m just drawing all blanks on this....
I have a two column layout. My problem is I need a way to create a 2nd content area for the second column. It needs to be user friendly to edit (ie rich text editor).
How can I accomplish this? Oh, if this is done with TV please spell it out as I havn’t ever really used TV..

Create a new TV, give it whatever name "leftColumn" or something, and an appropriate brief description, "content for left column". Set its input type to be "Rich Text". Make sure to check the box at the bottom for the template/templates you want it to work with.
The interesting part is determined by exactly how you want this to work. If you want each subsection of your site to generally share the same left content, then use @INHERIT as the default value. This way you only need to edit the TV field in parent documents; all their children will inherit that value, while you still can edit for individual pages if you want to.
[*#leftColumn*] will make it have its own edit link in QuickEdit if you’re using that for front-end editing. I find that’s not a good idea if you’re using @INHERIT, as your users can get confused when they see that as the content for the field.

Hello,
Thanks for the quick reply! I will give that a try in the morning. Oh, the site is just 4 pages all in the root and they will all share the same content.... I guess putting a page in an iframe for the column would be a good way to explain it... And I don’t use quickedit.
Thanks

Hello,

In that case, just put your content in the default value of the TV. But editing it for one page will only edit it for that page; if you need to edit it for all of your pages, you would need to edit the actual TV’s default value again, which kind of defeats your purpose.
In your case, you should use a TV with @DOCUMENT xx (where xx is the ID of another document), and create a document just to hold that content. Then it could be edited just as any other document’s content is edited.

The document method works perfectly, but when I edit and save a page it kills the @document.
Is there a way I can set this so when I edit a document it dosn’t break the @document bit? Or can I force the TV to not use the richtext editor?

Yes, just edit the TV itself and change the input type. "Text" would probably be just fine.

That was just the ticket!
Thanks again!
