    Hi,

I'm just wondering what search engines most people are using for their sites. I was running an Ajaxsearch custom engine I created but it became very sluggish. So then I moved to Freefind but it caches so much that it sends up errors and excluded pages sometimes.

And then I looked to Google, the ultimate of searches, but from, what I understand you can only have 100 queries a day, otherwise you have to pay. I found another today named Sphider, which is a free PHP script that can be customised to your needs but again as the site gets bigger, it gets more sluggish.

I am trying to find a search engine that can handle thousands of pages, on my old Ajaxsearch I used a ranking method which also slowed it down, I would like to have a ranking system on my new search. So basically I am just curious to see what the rest of you use for your sites?

    Regards,
    DS

Actually, if you're willing to make it count, you should get a licensed google search for your site. It's not a bad idea after all. Google indexes everything and you'll have direct access to whatever is public on your site. Some searches show results that are not supposed to be public, if contexts and permissions are misconfigured (which they are pretty often from what I have seen in installations).

Try the 100queries/day Google-Search. If that isn't sufficient for your site, it's worth buying, because you obviously have a lot of users in need of that search smiley Sounds like it's worth the investment...
