Answered Resource tree missing, back end menus not working

Hi All

I'd appreciate picking your collective brains on an issue I am experiencing.

I have two sites where I suddenly started experiencing the same back end manager issues a month ago. Both were working fine since launch and were setup with standard permissions on an Admin user. WHMCS was used to install and from memory the server is running PHP 5.4 and MySql 5.6

One is run on MODX Revolution 2.2.0-pl2 (traditional), the other on MODX Revolution 2.2.10-pl (traditional). When logging in to the back end the 2.2.0 goes to the welcome screen with mods feed, security issues etc, the 2.2.10 displays the same but truncated, showing only the top inch.

These problems are replicated in Safari, Firefox and Chrome on Mac, same on PC, also on tablets etc - I tried many variants as I wasn't sure if it could be a corrupted css issue.

Many (if not all) of the menu options don't seem to work - I cannot access settings, error log etc, though clicking some of the menu settings seems to force me to login again. The resource list is missing. No changes to access controls have been made, no updates have been made to modx. I have hopefully enclosed a screenshot of one of the blank manager pages, showing nothing below the menu bar other than a small check box in the top right which does nothing when clicked. I have tried logging out, clearing site cache etc but I am not sure that is actually working in common with other menu items.

Is there a known solution for this behaviour or would it be best to backup and update the modx installations using Bob Ray's excellent book (thanks for that! superb) and Bob's online upgrade page http://bobsguides.com/modx-upgrade-faq.html

Ok an update...

Checked and repaired all (69) database tables using phpMyAdmin, manually deleted all contents of the core/cache directory using ftp, backed up the site content and tables using cPanel back up tools, cleared the browser site cache (unable to use the Site..Clear Cache option through the Manager still at this point)... checked Manager Back End function after each step and no change after each step at this point.

Went into System Settings Table and turned off compress_js and compress_css, cleared all the browser cache and core/cache again and then access was properly restored with the Resource Tree available again. Thank you so much Susan, your help very much appreciated. I have only tried this on one of the sites so far but will try it on the other as well shortly.

Looking at Safari's error console when I login to Manager I get the following:

[Error] TypeError: 'undefined' is not a function (evaluating 'this.hide()')

Am wondering if it would be sensible for me to over-write the relevant .js files with the original install files to check all ok. Will look into that.
