Has anyone seen a technique or plugin to write the Manager Log to a real log file like the error log or system access log or error log?
If not, how might this be accomplished?

It is written to a real log file. Look in core/cache/logs.

Only seems to be the error.log in there, not a file-based version of the Manager Log - what's the name of the file?

I think that's it. You can set the type of error logging in the System Settings; by default it's FILE.

You can also use a custom error handler, I think it would extend the moderrorhandler.class.
