    Hi

I have a static website and wonder if it is possible to just hook up ModX to one page from the site to make it editable.
I have added the page that i want to make editable to modx (as a template) but the only page that diplays, displays as index.php...and i actually want it to be a page named as it was on the static site eg. editable.html
I have enabled friendly urls too which i thought may help when i navigate to the page in the browser.
So my other question will be...if the index.php page is showing in the browser as my ’editable’ page then i’ve already got the hard (i know it’s not that hard) bit done so i just need to make the index.php page be called editable.html...but how?

    Thanks for any help.

install modx in a directory and create a single document with the same look as the rest of the site, then on the existing site change the link to the old page to point to the modx directory. Although it is very easy to simply import your existing site as html into modx and keep everything together.

        J,

This is where you went wrong.

The template is the part of a MODx page that is NOT editable from the front end.

What you should have done is to remove the part of the page that you wanted to edit (the content), saved it somewhere, and then used what was left as your MODx template, putting [*#content*] where you want the content to appear.

Then you create a new document in MODx and set it to use the above template as a template and, in the "Content" window, paste the content you saved earlier.

Friendly URLs just determine whether the address of each page (i.e. what appears in the address window of the browser) uses a name or an ID number. They don’t effect what’s editable.

Also, in MODx, index.php is just kind of a dispatcher. All page requests go through it, but no user ever sees it. In a MODx site, the "home page" is a document you create in the manager. Then you set it as the default page for visitors by by putting its document ID number in the box in "Tools | Configuration | Site | Site Start."

See the site in my sig for more info, especially the "Getting Started in MODx" and "Porting Your Site to MODx" sections.

And, yes, I think you’ve got the hard part done. Once you understnad how MODx does things, the rest is easy. smiley

Just to say that tis has now been solved...it must have been a long week because everything is working as i expected it too...i just hadn’t enabled Use friendly aliases from when i had disabled the lot previously!!!!

          Hi,

thanks so much for your replies.
I think i’m getting there...the reason i enabled friendly urls was so i could go directly to the page using the alias name.
But there is obviously something i’ve missed out in the htaccess file because i can get to the page immediately when i use a prefix of’index.php?q=’ and turn off alias path in the configuration.

          However...now only one page displays.
I have created another document eg. ’editable2’ and thought that if i used a different alias then i should be able to go directly to the page in browser but now all i can get is the original page regardless of what i call it in the alias field. So now in the browser for www.mysite.com/index.php?q=editable.html AND www.mysite.com/index.php?q=editable2.html i get the same page.
Is it something to do with the ID’s?

          Thanks for your help.
