I had a discussion about this topic a few years ago, but I can't find it anymore. As we are working on enhancing the backend in revo2.3 I'd like to raise this topic again.
As some of you might have noticed, MODx is stripping all tags from TV descriptions.
The reason for this is line 364 in core/model/modx/modtemplatevar.class.php
$this->set('description',strip_tags($this->get('description')));
Removing the strip_tags part seems not to be causing any problems and it gives us a whole lot of opportunities to style and utilize any tv description to our hearts content.
We could
* emphasize part of the description by adding color or font-weight.
* add links to help pages
* add modals/popups pulling stuff from a file or a specific resource.
If we would add the ability to render chunks or snippets, we could do some pretty nifty stuff.
Question: Is there a good reason behind stripping tags at this point, or is this just some kind of legacy thing we are carrying around?
I can imagine there is some security concern, but I can't think of a scenario where such an option would cause problems that are not already there.
