It is sending email, that's not the issue.
Trust me I have my local dev machines and staging servers set up correctly.
I'm now using MODX 2.2.12 and FormIt 2.2.0
Can you guys let me know what versions of MODX and FormIt you're using?

I tested it on MODX 2.2.8 and latest FormIt 2.2.0 on a site I have and it works fine.
Tested on another site with MODX 2.2.11 and FormIt 2.2.0 no issues either.
I will upgrade both of these to MODX 2.2.12 and see if theres any change.
One of my shared accounts is still on MODX 2.2.11 so it's unlikely to be that.

johnnyp have you tried testing on a MODX Cloud free account and see if you get the same issues?
I want to make sure it's not a hosting environment issue.
OK cheers both - This is clearly something I need to work on from absolute scratch. I will try your suggestion Ben.
I'm pretty sure at this point that theres something I'm f-ing up each time with the installation. Maybe file permissions, maybe something else.
I really appreciate the help you've both given.

I found the placeholder problem! It was to do with bad installation - the cloud dev account helped me pour through everything as it should be. As soon as I fixed the diffs FomIt worked perfectly.
Massive relief. 100% my fault in the end. Thanks for the help everyone.

johnnyp glad you got it sorted out buddy
My only concern is 10 installations all had the same problem, what were you doing wrong?
I usually uninstall and force remove packages when they act stupid which is why I suggested you uninstall FormIt earlier but that didn't work, so I'm really curious as to what you were doing wrong.
The reason I think there were discrepancies is that I was copying the files via FTP, aka being lazy, not unpacking a zip or tar. *redface*
The shared hosting doesn't allow SSH (lol right, work) so to unpack I have to login to the CP. I was thinking 'screw it' and copying the files.
It also explains a previous problem I had with missing files. As for the local dev machines, again it must have been my laziness (I would need to be at work to check whether it was the same issue).
Feel free to call me an idiot. Anyone new to MODX reading this – don't be lazy, just do it the right way.

No I will not call you an idiot we've all made mistakes especially when we are new to MODX or anything in life.
I personally don't ftp extracted files since it takes too long and it's prone to having the issues you had.
Most hosts have a file manager you can use to extract the zip file which is what I always do, faster and easier.
Anyways, glad you got it sorted out.
