    Greetings all;

    I’m running MODx version 0.9.6.1p2

I’ve stumbled on a problem I just haven’t been able to conquer.
I’ve built a site that I’ve copied to another location on the server - so I might have a ’development’ site, and a ’production’ site.

The original ’production’ site works fine, logging into the manager in all browsers.
The copy, however, will only allow login via Firefox (I’m using 2.0.x at the moment).

When attempting to login using IE 7.0.x or Safari, supplying the correct credentials land the user right back on the login screen, no errors or warnings as is usual for a failed authentication. The manager_log table has a successful login, no failed logins are charged against the user in the user_attributes table.

I’ve traced through things, and don’t see anything obvious...
Has anyone run into this before?

    Cheers,
    Sean.

It may be that the other browsers have old cookies hanging around. Try clearing the browser cache and cookies for the domain.

Hmmm - hadn’t thought of that...
I’ve just tried it but... No love? Still the same behaviour.

        Any other ideas?

What is the domain for the second installation? Does it by any chance contain an underscore character?

It does in fact contain an underscore character! I take it that is a bad thing? I’ll try it now and see!...
Yes - that did it. Things are back to ’normal’. <G> Many thanks for your help.

For my ’learn from my mistakes’ purposes - what effect did the underscore have? Is it on the client/browser layer? Web Server? Application MODx? If in the application, which code did I miss that would have lead me to this conclusion?

            Many thanks again.
            Sean.

There is a setting in the Manager for what page the user should be re-directed to after login. Make sure it’s not set to ID of the login page.

Actually, I just learned this myself a few minutes ago while researching cookies and the domain paramter.

The use of underscores in hostnames is an RFC violation and may very well not be supported at all by a browser, proxy or any http client.]

See the user comments on this page for more detail.
