PHPThumbs > open_basedir headache

Hi,
I've moved MODx to the client's server and I'm getting this error:

(ERROR @ /path-to/core/model/phpthumb/phpthumb.class.php : 4068) PHP warning: tempnam() [<a href='function.tempnam'>function.tempnam</a>]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/tmp/) is not within the allowed path(s): (/path-to:/path-to/tmp:/path-to/temp)

Images are not rendering in /manager and also phpthumbs isn't working on the frontend.

Environment:
MODX Revolution 2.2.11-pl (traditional)
Apache/2.2.22 (FreeBSD) PHP/5.3.27 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8q DAV/2
Imagemagic is enabled (3.1.0RC1)
GD is enabled bundled (2.1.0 compatible)

Any ideas? I've re-installed a couple of times / tried to upgrade to MODX Revolution 2.2.12-pl though I get an error that MODx cannot unpack transport zip (separate issue or possibly connected).

The open_basedir setting is primarily used to prevent PHP scripts for a particular user from accessing files in another user's account. So usually, any files in your own account should be readable by your own scripts.

I would speak to the hosting company about it.
