I tested with firebug if browser caching for images is working properly. I sat the mod_expires value for png to 12 month for testing in the httpd.conf.

For images that are genrated by the "Gallery Extra" http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/gallery the set "Expire Date" is not recongnised.

I assume that this is related to the generated URL to the image containing a question mark, but I am not sure about it.

I am sure that the mod_expire is generally configured correct since another png on the same site which is direcly linked in the html code is recognised properly.

I would like to stay with the Gallery Extra if possible in any way. Has anyone any experience or idea to make the Gallery Items cachable in the browser cache?

The cache-control header says 'max-age=10800', which is 3 hours. You are comparing a static file (Firefox-icon.png) with a dynamic file which is handled by PHP and not Apache. PHP and/or the plugin will need to manage the caching and response.

Thanks for the reply this lead me to figure out my mistake.

If anybody else might have this issue here is what I did wrong in the Gallery chunk.

I used as "src=" [[+thumbnail]] but the correct placeholder is [[+image_absolute]]. Now page load is much faster since not going through the connector each time, more secure and images are cached as set in the appache settings.

side note: by bypassing the php connector the actual page size increased a lot since there are no longer thumbnails used but anyway the load speed went down from 20sec to 2sec measured with pingdom. So either I am doing anything completly wrong with the thumbnail usage of Gallery or this extra in the current version is way to slow. [ed. note: sh0ck23 last edited this post 12 years, 7 months ago.]
