For some reason the captcha kept saying it was configured improperly (it wasn't). Not sure if a bug or something weird on my end.
Anyway, now it's giving me the above message. I'm the only manager for the webpage for my organization, and I need to make some changes to the page - how long will this last for/ how can I circumvent it?

60 minutes by default.
You can change that in the db, system_settings table. I usually change it to 5 minutes while developing for just this very reason.
If you can't get past the Captcha, you'll be blocked again.
Edit the core/cache/system_settings/config.cache.php file and turn off captcha by setting:
captcha.enabled = '0',
As soon as you log in, go to System -> System Settings and turn off the captcha.enabled System Setting or you may be locked out again.
