Wayfinder Total Count

I am using Wayfinder to display an index of resources which appear in just one folder. I need the total number of resources displayed to use a jquery paginator. I see there once upon a time used to be a SubChildDocCount feature in Wayfinder but it apparently no longer exists. What is the standard that people are using now to get a variable showing the number of resources returned with Wayfinder?

Since Wayfinder finishes before jquery runs, couldn't you have jQuery count the number of children prior to executing the paginator?

Using getResources which is working, but never thought about using JQuery. Interesting solution Jason, thanks!
