I have a requirement to create an "email wall" or a "form wall" - ie where a customer has content they give away in return for some contact details.

The visitor would complete the form, then successful submission would lead to the download page.

I realise I could do this in one step with formit and have the "success" message trigger the download, but I would want the download page to be separate, and bookmarkable so that the visitor can return and do the download again.

If someone else goes direct to the download page then they get redirected to the form.

I think this is just a case of setting a cookie, but was thinking there might be an established way to do this already with Modx?

How about requiring site membership with Subscribe and Login, and then protect the page with resource groups?

You could also password protect the page. I think Bob wrote an article about that recently, but I didn't find it. You could email the password with FormIt after filling out the form.

I think I'd require site membership personally, it'll help you keep track of those who are downloading a little better than just collecting email forms.

Subscribe will send an email with a confirmation link immediately. The link will take them to the ConfirmRegister page and you could forward them to the download page from the ConfirmRegister page (i.e., make the download page the "registration confirmed" page.

That way, they'll all be registered as users and you could send them emails with Notify whenever new downloads are available. They can optionally also be segregated into groups and/or have tags stored that specify their interests so you can send email to selected subsets of them. They can modify the groups and/or tags and unsubscribe via the link sent in the email Notify sends.

I actually don't want to make these people users. They will get registered to an external edm - perhaps mailchimp.

No need for any email confirmation for the form to be considered complete. The idea is to capture a minimal amount of information then they get access to the download page.

This is why I was thinking just a cookie. If they lose the cookie, they can just complete the form again.

If I did want to just set a cookie, and check its presence later, is there a modx way of doing it.

The setcookie() function in php requires the call to happen prior to sending any of the page, so it seems likely that I'd need modx to help?
