Is there a Great Solution for Handling Responsive Images

Has anyone had luck integrating Adaptive-Images or Interchange into a MODx site?

You might want to look at phpThumbsUp.

I can't get it to work.

I've never used it.

I'd advise filing issues at Github.

Might have something to do with the security upgrade to the core phpthumb file.

I'm still running 2.2.10 and unable to even entertain doing an update to MODx at the moment. Have to get the site live first. Then worry about security upgrade.

Not being able to figure out phpThumbsUp, I did a bit of reading on phpThumbOf, and wonder if it might be an alternative. I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around where the images actually go. Are they created and then stored somewhere, or is this an on demand process.

I've been looking at Foundation 5 interchange which basically determines which size image to deploy. Only drawback, it seems as though I would have to create a separate image for each size. Great for being able to art direct and crop. Tedious however with multiple galleries and slider.

I wonder though, could I use phpThumbOf to generate the 3 or 4 sizes I need, them apply them to various calls in my List Item .tpl for a slider. The img src could have multiple src [[+image]], each surrounded with the appropriate code for Interchange to make a decision from based on the screen size of the device.

Am I crazy, or is this a viable option to pursue?

If you'd consider an external service, there is Pixtulate which will scale and crop images on demand from one source image. No need to have any images pre-sized or cropped. You can even have your image dimensions automatically determined by including the pixtulate.js script. This is a great service for responsive images or simply auto generating thumbnails.

Thanks kkarski. I will give that a look. I'm hoping to keep as much of the site as possible in house but may have to give in on this one.

I would recommend using pThumb over phpThumbOf...
