In your getResources or pdoResources snippet (for fetching the 5 latest child pages) use a tpl that has a getImageList snippet with the &limit=`1` property.

you need getResources (or pdoResources) to get the resources listed.

Than use getImageList inside a getResources - tpl to get the first image of each resource.

ok starting to get the drift here's where I am at.

Got MIGx installed by using this page http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/migx/migx.tutorials/migx.use-resource-specific-mediasource-and-multifile-uploader which gives me a TV of resourcealbum.

My getResources is this

[[!getResources? 
&parents=`117`
&depth=`3`
&tpl=`image-only2`
&includeTVs=`1`
&processTV=`1`
&showHidden=`true`
&element=`getResources`
&sortdir=`desc`]]

tpl image-only2

[[!getImageList?
    &tvname=`resourcealbum`
    &tpl=`image-only`
    &limit=`1`
    &menutitle=`[[+menutitle]]`
  ]]

tpl image-only

<li><img src="[[+image`]]" alt="[[+menutitle]]"></li>

I am hoping I am getting close but the above outputs nothing my heads now hurts any clues would be great and thanks for the replys so far.

getImageList needs to know from which resource to get the images from, so you need

[[!getImageList?
    &tvname=`resourcealbum`
    &tpl=`image-only`
    &limit=`1`
    &menutitle=`[[+menutitle]]`
    &docid=`[[+id]]`
  ]]

Bruno thanks so much it works, I wish I had the brain power you have could not believe it when I refreshed and it worked, just needed that &docid=`[[+id]]` I finally understand it.
